TE-63 electric start- TR-63 rope start
Built from the end of 1962 to 1965- Wisconsin S7D- gear driven- automotive style clutch- 32" single blade octagon shaped mower deck- cast aluminum rear transaxle body- no rear pto on the early made models, but now finding some that did on the later built models- rear sleeve hitch- front grill material was expanded light weight steel- earliest . serial numbers so are is #1206 and latest is #2034. These were heavy built riding tractors. Most GT's at that time were belt driven. Belts in those days were mostly rubber and did not hold up like today's belts. Gear driven tractors were promoted as better and more reliable.
V4-6, V4-7, V3-6
Could be bought with either as electric start or rope start - built from 196? to 1967- all pulley drive variable drive GT's- V4 were 4 speed peerless transmissions- V3 were 3 speed peerless transmissions- either 6 hp or 7hp were availabile- 6hp were Tecumseh HH60 motors- 7hp were Wisconsin S7D motors- 32" single blade mower round deck- not rear pto option was available- note seat setup in the picture- grills were U shaped metal welded vertically only model that had this style grill- sleeve hitch- These tractors were priced lower than the gear driven tractors- I suspect these models were made to offer the dealers a lower and probably more competitive model to sell. I suspect these to be low production models.
built from 1966 to 1968- this model replaced the T-63 -all were gear driven- all came with Wisconsin S7D motors - grill heavier than original T-63 grill- made of expanded steel- rear pto possibly not on early models- but all later models had them- sleeve hitch- early model transaxle body was cast aluminum- 32" or 42" mower decks were available- serial numbers so far range from 7012 to 7892 – (there is 1 6000 serial numbered tractor owned by a fellow collector).
built from 1966 to 1972- this was the most produced and sold model- early models had TR10-D motors, later models had TRA10-D and Tecumseh HH100- around 1971 only Tecumseh HH100's were used- seat frame set up from these models were used on all the models except the JB series tractors- all are gear driven- rear pto were standard from 1966 till around 1971 where it became an option- early tractors had yellow rims- later models came with white rims- transaxle body and axle tubes were beefed up and now were made of cast steel- sleeve hitch- this tractor weighs around 700 lbs- a 32" and 42" mower deck were available- but I have never seen one with a 32" deck- D4-10 came with a parking brake- serial numbers so far range from 8008 to 10500
Probably one of the rarest Bush Hogs to find- I am aware of maybe 4 or 5 that exist as of this posting- it was the first large Garden tractor they built. I originally was thinking less than 50 built, just a guess. But now with the serial numbers I have I am leaning toward 150-200 range. They were powered ( or should I say under powered) by a Tecumseh 10hp points motor. I believe they realized the 10hp was not enough and moved the the 12hp Tecumseh next.
You can spot the difference at a distance from the HD-12. The seat frame mounts on the extended dash and not on a riser like the HD-12.
I know of one that has sold at auction with implements, rear pto option, tiller mounts, etc for over $6000. It was pretty original.
The HD-12 came standard with 15" rear rims and 12" front rims.
Serial numbers so far range from 5251 to 5456.
Produced from mid 1966 to 1968, these are about 40% larger than the D series tractors. First version came with a Tecumseh HH120, but from what I can tell, quickly changed to the more powerful Wisconsin S12D. I suspect the Tecumseh powered tractors will be a very small number. I am aware of 5 at this time. Tractor uses the Sunstrand Hydrogear transaxle- no brakes- tractor is stopped by returning the lever to neutral- has hydraulic lift- sleeve hitch only- 42" mower deck- weights approximately 830lbs.
Only produced for about 1 1/2 years- this model was replaced by the JB series tractors in late 1968.
The HW-12 above with 12" wide rear tires and 10" front tires. The "W" designates "wide tires". You will not see HW on the hoods, only in the price list. Goodyear Terra would have been the factory correct tires.
.
D4-12-only shows up in the 1971 price list- this was a D4-10 shell with a 12hp Tecumseh HH120 motor- white rims-head light rims were painted red and not chrome-may have had a few subtle differences from the D4-10. Low production model. Serial numbers so far range from 101 to 283.
